In the course of nine decades, the company has always based its business policies on the changing markets and growing customer requirements. What was founded as sole proprietorship "Josef Hunkeler" for the trade and sale of graphic machines in 1922 has since grown into a leading provider worldwide of pre and post solutions in digital print and web finishing. Over time, the innovative technology coming from the Swiss town of Wikon has had a considerable impact on the development and progress of the paper-processing industry.
Hunkeler AG's ability to stand its ground in the market over such a long period of time is partly attributable to the fact that it has always been family-owned and has hence retained its financial and corporate independence to the present day.
Digital printing since 1982
With the first generation of "Printer Online Paper Processing", POPP1 for short, Hunkeler presented a trail-blazing production concept for in-line document processing in continuous digital printing in 1982. As a result, the new system became established in the market within a short time. Today over 6,000 such installations are in operation worldwide. With POPP7, Hunkeler presented the first components of the seventh generation at the Drupa 2008.
Important partnerships
Hunkeler has time and again set decisive benchmarks - and not only in terms of technology. Taking a far-sighted view, the company recognized early on the importance of partnerships within the industry. The objective of close cooperation has always been to offer customers comprehensive solutions marked by perfectly coordinated components, control systems and materials.
Commitment to progress
Planned to coincide with the anniversary, an extension building will be completed in Wikon in the summer. The 2,000 square meters offer new space, most of which will be available to customers and partners in the form of demonstration and training centers. Hunkeler thereby once again shows its strong commitment to progress, continuity and market leadership, an ambitious goal which will continue to be of value in future.
